The Bloodgood is considered the best of the best purple-leaved Japanese Maples. It’s one of the largest JM shrubs or rounded trees, growing to 15-20ft. Bloodgood produces small purple flowers in spring that turn to red fruits. Foliage features a five- or seven-point maple shape, is wine-red to burgundy through summer and vibrant crimson in fall. As leaves shed, the blackish red bark adds some serious winter interest.
A low-maintenance Japanese Maple that displays its best leaf color in partial shade and rarely requires pruning.
