LEMON-SCENTED BLOOMS
It’s hard not to fall for this Magnolia, especially in May when its creamy white flowers begin to open each morning and close at night. Each lemon-scented bloom lasts about two to three days before falling from the tree and leaving a cascade of pretty petals. Even the foliage is remarkable, with long, glossy leaves and silvery-white undersides.
Your shrubby-sized Magnolia is easy to grow, especially when you plant it in soil on the wet side (it is also known as the Swamp Magnolia) and a full-sun to partly shady spot. It will grow at a moderate rate and will produce reddish seed clusters in fall, then go dormant in winter.
For best results, apply Iron Plus and 10-10-10 fertilizer in March/April and in October/November. You’ll notice the difference.
